Hi there! I have always been a writer. When I was a little girl, I read every book I could get my hands on, and wrote stories, poems and continuous letters to family and friends. I always felt as though I could express myself best through writing. The words always flow. The stories come out. The feelings pour onto the page. I went to Syracuse University and majored in advertising and marketing. I spent years in the publishing industry, writing copy for the marketing, sales and promotions departments of Time Inc., Reader's Digest, American Express, etc.
In 2005, I left my career in marketing, and went back to school to be a middle school Language Arts teacher. My daytime teaching job led to tutoring. And then middle school tutoring led to high school tutoring. And one day I found myself helping high school seniors with their college essays. One client became two, two became three, and before I knew it, it was time to make my "side business" more official!
I LOVE my Writer's Notch College Essay business. I LOVE getting to know students. I LOVE hearing their stories. Sometimes I feel like part psychologist, part teacher and part Mom/friend. I hear about my students’ highs and their lows. I hear very personal details about their lives. However, I believe that I hear about this information because my students feel comfortable sharing with me. I want my students to feel comfortable, safe and secure about what they write and what they tell me. They are not analyzing Macbeth; they are telling stories about their lives. With my help, they are choosing a topic that they want to share with colleges, a topic that will allow the colleges to get to know them better, and get to know a piece of them that will not be so obvious on their application.
So - while I'm waiting for my next client, it's time for me to stare out the window, gaze at the beautiful sunset, and think about all of the amazing and wonderful untold stories that I have yet to read!
